This famous Dullstroom countryside retreat is renowned for its Art of Food at Chapter One restaurant and it's Whisky, Oysters and Champagne bar. Chef's Kevin and Betty, display their magical talent at the Hotel's renowned restaurant. Fresh oysters are flown in weekly and the bar boasts over 300 whiskies and an extensive range of acclaimed local wines, sparkling wines and champagnes. Dinner bookings are essential. The property has extensive gardens and a highly popular swimming pool. The highlander offers a range of rooms to meet all budgets and group sizes. Budget Classic Queen rooms are available in the annex and family and king suites are available on the main site. Definitely repeatable!

Pros: Outstanding service, accommodation and cuisine. Extremely helpful staff..

Cons: We were unaware that the booking did not include meals. Although we enjoyed the great breakfasts and evening meals, we discovered on arrival that there was initially no availability of a table for dinner on 14 February (Valentine's Day). The problem was sorted by the reception desk the next morning once they had received a cancellation. Prospective guests should ensure that they book their meals ahead of their arrival.

Pros: The Highlander is a beautiful hotel, with all the amenities you could want. The room we had was luxurious and the restaurant and little whisky bar were amazing as well. Enjoyed the space of coziness of the room.

Cons: The staff a reception could have been more friendly. Additionally the hotel is very much in the middle of town, so if you're someone who would like some seclusion, take that into account.

The service was professional and efficient throughout. The food was also a highlight — fresh, flavorful, and well-presented, with a good variety of options to suit different tastes. Whether dining in the restaurant or ordering room service, the quality remained consistently high. Overall, I highly recommend The Highlander Hotel for anyone looking for a relaxing and well-serviced stay. I look forward to returning!

Amazing!

Pros: Everything was marvelous. From the moment we stepped onto the property we felt welcome and the staff went out of their way to make it an amazing stay. All the staff is an absolute delight. It was a nice and romantic getaway. I can’t wait to visit again.

Pros: The staff went out their way for us. We had dinner with our kids and when returning to the room they had started our fire to make the room toasty and warm for our return. They had cherry waiting for us as we came in.

Pros: The rooms were comfortable and loved the bathroom!

Cons: Was surprised that there was not much options for vegetarian/vegan options in this day and age. Have learned now to let this property know in advance.
