Good family time at Mjejane

Pros: Loved the unit being on the river and that each double room had an ensuite

Cons: There seemed to be lack of maintenance in both units. The cupboard door underneath the sink in the river unit was only attached with 1 hinge and the door fell on one of the guest's foot and that was very painful. The bush unit never had the patio swept and the sheets were very yellowed. It seems that the units need to be upgraded a bit. I was disappointed as when I booked it seemed that we were going to have a river unit and a park unit. Instead, we got a river unit and a bush unit. The bush in front of the bush units is very thick.

Pros: Great private large accommodation, we always enjoy time here. Just note 2 bedrooms are in the main house, the other 2 are detached from the house, this is important when bringing a family with small children. It is great for privacy when travelling as adults or couples. Game drives are really great, road from Joburg to Mjejane is good with no potholes but leave while it’s light because there are plenty of trucks on the way and some parts are one lane, overtaking can be tricky, be safe and patient.

Cons: That they only change towels on Tuesday’s so we had no towel changed and that they have a 22:00pm curfew

Pros: The chalet was large and well-stocked for a self-catering stay.

Cons: No cleaning services on a Sunday. Extra charges to enter the reserve that was almost R1000, these aren’t listed when booking and come as a surprise after the reservation is made. The entry procedure into the reserve gate takes a long time, and the staff there were really not great, they were slow and did not seem to know what they were doing. It sets a bad tone for that to be the first encounter.

Great stay

Pros: Good value for money, enough space for a big family. Enjoyed the game drive

Cons: I wasn’t notified about the R350 vehicle levy before hand. Only found out when we arrived. Also the code to enter the property was not given to me. Had to call reception when we arrived

Pros: Location was awesome! We had lunch at the lodge twice. It was great.

Mjejane bush lodge is highly recommended

Pros: Mjejane remains a top favourite and the bush lodge is an exceptional offering - the unit we stayed in was large and well equipped with a wood fire hot tub on the roof
